Research: Improving organisational well being - Schwartz Rounds

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) conducted this research looking at the effectiveness of Schwartz Rounds - a forum for clinical and non clinical teams to share stories and discuss the emotional impact of delivering healthcare.  115 organisations, including hospices who use them were involved in the research.  It showed that overtime staff participating in the sessions felt less stressed and isolated and more empathetic when dealing with patients and colleagues. It offers one of the few evidence based interventions that work at both organisational and person centred level.

Article: Breaking free: should annual reports be less about numbers and more about impact?

31 years after the first Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) was published, the sector is reviewing whether charity accounts are fit for purpose.  There is the argument that charity accounts should move away from a focus on cash flows and surpluses, to one which reports on the differences the charity makes, and a simplification of financial activities.

News: Parliament Bill introduced to allow trustees time off from work

From Civil Society Magazine, an update on the Charity Trustees (Time off for Duties) Bill which had its first reading in the Commons on the 18th March.  It proposes that Trustees should be allowed to take a reasonable amount of time off work to carry out their duties.  It is hoped it will help with the role of a trustee appealing to a wider group of people.  The 2nd reading of the bill takes place on the 22nd March.
