Report: Resilience: a framework supporting hospice staff to flourish in stressful times

This report is intended for hospice trustees, chief executives and senior managers who have responsibility for supervising, managing and leading groups of staff.  The research, carried out by the Point of Care Foundation reports on a review of the literature and other related evidence about work stress and how it's addressed in hospices; provides a summary of the finding, provides a framework of interventions that hospice leaders may wish to implement, and a check list for hospice boards and senior managers to assess the degree they recognise and respond to stress in the workforce.

Guidance: Deprivation of liberties: an update for hospices

Written by Hospice UK and National Council for Palliative Care, this update for hospices on the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards highlights the importance of a recent Supreme Court judgement on care of people who may lack capacity to consent to the arrangements.  It sets out ways in which hospices may wish to get involved or influence subsequent activity, and what actions they can be taken.

This guidance updates the previous guidance, last revised March 2012.    The guide is primarily aimed at charity trustees and sets out what charities are required to do, in terms of preparing annual reports, accounts and annual returns.   In each section of the guidance the commission asks a selection of relevant questions that trustees or their advisers may ask.  For each question, the guide gives a concise summary answer, followed by more background.

New book: The complete volunteer handbook

With the involvement of new third author, UK volunteering expert Rob Jackson, the remit of this new edition has been broadened and extended. It includes: A fully revised and updated introduction on trends and issues in volunteerism, especially regarding recruitment and supervision/management of volunteers.
