Survey: Leadership Survey 2014

Produced jointly by Governance and Charity Finance Magazine, this 4th biennial Trustee Leadership Survey, provides an insight into the make-up of trustee boards at the largest 100 UK charities.  Part 1 focuses on the profile of the chair, their board and key issues they face, while part 2 of the surey looks at gender balance on the trustee board.

Produced by the Charity Commission and the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, this help-sheet considers the significant differences between the Account and Reporting by Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP 2005) and the Charities SORP Financial Reporting Standards (FRS 102).  Topics include: the contents of the trustees annual report, differences in accounting policies, differences in the format of accounts, and the definition and disclosure of transactions with related parties and empolyee benefits.

Leading UK palliative care charities, Together for Short Lives and Help the Hospices have designed this resource to support organisations to develop their work with volunteers. It explores the role volunteers can play in enhancing and improving the care and support offered to children and adults with palliative care needs, as well as their families. It also provides a wealth of case studies, as well as practical tools and templates to help review existing services or to develop new ones.

Article: Board diversity: diverse thinking

The magazine Charity Finance recently convened a group of senior sector figures to debate best practice on board and staff diversity.  This article reports on their discussions which included reflecting on their own charity board's diversity, why diversity is important, methods of recruitment and the elements of risk involved in achieving diversity.
